Things 7, 8 & 9

Week of February 13-20

7. Visit Classroom 2.0, the social network for those interested in Web 2.0 and collaborative technologies. This will introduce you to ways other teachers are using Web 2.0 in their classrooms. Create a blog post about anything Web 2.0-related that you think would be useful in your classroom. There is a great search "By Tool" and "By Subject" on the right sidebar.

8. Learn about RSS feeds and set up your own Bloglines newsreader account. Bloglines is a FREE online service that allows you to search for, read and share updates from your favorite news feed or blog.

9. Locate a few useful classroom related blogs and/or news feeds and add them to your Bloglines account.

  1. Classroom 2.0
I really liked the feature on the bar at the right where you could select you subject area and see what 2.0 tools educators are using to teach that subject. This site can be a real timesucker for people like me. I wander from page to page exploring what others are doing -- it's almost like reading Martha Stewart's Living -- if I don't take what I learn and bake the darn cake I feel somewhat guilty. I think I just have to incorporate some of the 2.0 tech in small steps and not feel like I have to have a complete 8 week unit that fully incorporates all these tools. Each journey begins with a step...

  2. I have to be honest, I created a bloglines account a month ago and have not been back to it since. There are so many other media sources that I find this one to be redundant for me. I do love the idea of RSS feeds and having information sent directly to me that I have pre-selected. Our IT guys would love the opportunity to set up a HF RSS feed-maybe TigerTV???

  3. I use googlereader which I do like. I get headlines from the Times Union, additions to HF23things and a few others. TigerTV, huh? Could you link that to the web page and have it scroll the news on the front page? Something to think about.

  4. I'm not really a big blogger. I created a bloglines account and don't feel like i have the time to go read all of that stuff. I prefer to waste my time on Face Book.lol I agree with Chris that it would be great to have an RSS feed on the HF website b/c we have to go to that site everyday anyway.
